Dr. John M. Wray

Dr. Wray is a native of Greenville, Maine, and attended undergraduate school at the University of Southern Maine Portland – Gorham. He is a 1971 graduate of the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine and did a two year surgical residency at Sacred Heart Hospital in Chicago. Following his residency, he joined the faculty at Scholl College where he taught surgery for 18 years, attaining the academic rank of Clinical Professor in Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Wray has been board-certified in podiatric surgery for 30 years by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a fellow of the American Society of Podiatric Surgery.

Dr. Wray began his private practice in 1977 as an associate of Peter N. Varzos, DPM. He took over the practice in 1983 at the time of Dr. Varzos’ retirement from private practice. The name Drs. Varzos, Wray, and Associates continued until January 2000 when the practice incorporated as Podiatry Center, SC. Dr. Wray is a member and past president of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Association and a member and a past delegate to House of Delegates of the American Podiatric Medical Association.

A member of the Illinois Podiatric Medical Licensing Board from January 2012 through January 2018 and Chairman of the By-Laws Committee of the American Podiatric Medical Association since August of 2012.

Dr. Alison Young


A native of Arkansas and Missouri, Dr. Young received a BA in American Studies from Carleton College in Minnesota. She earned her MA from the University of Mississippi and her Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University in North Chicago, IL. Prior to pursuing a career in Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, she worked for several years in the healthcare IT industry.

Following her graduation from the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in 2016, Dr. Young completed a three-year surgical residency at AMITA Sts. Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in Chicago. During her residency, she treated a wide variety of foot and ankle conditions with a special interest in sports injuries and diabetic foot infections.

Dr. Young is an Associate of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Medicine. She is also a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Illinois Podiatric Medical Association, and American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. She is a lifelong runner and previously competed at the collegiate level. She now lives in Wicker Park with her husband and two children.


Monica Vitalis

Monica is from Deva, Romania where she began her professional career as a registered nurse. She began working in our Downers Grove office in September 2000 as a clinical assistant. She assumed the role of business manager in February 2003 working in both the Chicago and Downers Grove offices. Our office is affiliated with the Independent Physicians Association (IPA), which covers a larger Chicago metro area and employs 60 podiatrists and advanced foot and ankle specialists. The IPA sponsors a minimum of two workshops per year for our office staff which are geared to keeping us abreast of the latest developments in today’s modern medical business office. Topics include: medical coding, claims filing, and compliance with state and national regulations regarding workplace safety and patient privacy. Monica is a frequent attendee at the Midwest Podiatry Conference which offers a wide array of educational programs for podiatric assistants and business managers. Monica is fluent in Hungarian and Romanian.


Virginia Higareda

Virginia Higareda has joined our Chicago Loop office. Virginia is new to our team but has been working in podiatric medicine and surgery for the past seven years. While all of our staff is crossed trained, she will be focused on clinical services. She will be assisting Drs. Wray and Young during your visit. Hanna Tuzyak

Hanna Tuzyak has joined our Downers Grove Office as of August 1, 2019. Hanna comes to us as a seasoned podiatric medical assistant having worked for other podiatric physicians since 2012. She has also worked in primary care prior to her podiatric career. Please join us in welcoming Hanna to our team in Downers Grove.
